Garden Pots Guide

The Classic Look of Stone Garden Pots

Man has been cultivating all types of plants since the dawn of time. Aside from the obvious reasons for agriculture as a means of feeding ourselves, we have always been fascinated by nature and what it can offer. We enjoy the care of flowering plants and other ornamentals for the beauty they give us. We plant vegetables for sustenance, likewise with fruit trees, and herbs to spice up our meals. Lately, we have been discovering the many incredible benefits of trees in our world. Hence, tree planting has become a socio-civic activity for many companies, groups, and individuals.

Gardening is an ancient and noble profession. Babylon’s hanging gardens would not have been that successful without a gardener to tend its famous plants. Since that time, the tools and materials of the trade has grown to include high tech lawnmowers, leaf blowers, fertilizers, sprays, and the like. What hasn’t changed is the use of stone as garden ornament. It is a classic material, there is no denying. In garden supply and deco centers everywhere, there are stone urns, stone birdbaths, and stone garden pots.

The garden pot is different from ordinary pots in its size and purpose. Ordinary flower pots are small containers for modestly sized plants. The pots we are discussing, on the other hand, are large and well designed for small trees, herbs and veggies, and mini gardening where there is a lack of soil. Aside from the stone garden pots, there are those made out of plastic and fiberglass, wood, metal, and terra cotta clay. In large garden areas, decks, rooftops, atriums, or indoor spaces that lend itself to ornamentation, the stone pot is an apt choice. Small trees are excellent for these pots. The plant and the pot will complement each other well. A tree needs a strong sturdy pot for balance. It can survive the outdoor environment without having to be moved around like other sensitive plants. A stone garden pot, on the other hand, would be too heavy to move around. Only hardy and resilient plants should be placed here then. An option would be to permanently situate such a heavy pot into a shady place, or one already well suited to the kind of plant you are planning to get. However, these stone garden pots are excellent protection against both heat and cold. They insulate a plant well wherever needed.

Aside from decorating needs, a small tree in a garden pot could be used for other practical needs such as a natural shade from the sun, as wind and sound breaker, and to improve a view or hide a view. Herbs and vegetables could serve as supplements and additions to market produce, as well as for ornamentation. Flowering plants can brighten up a dreary, cemented or paved area with splashes of color. Air quality can be improved for us regardless of the type of plant in the vicinity. Moods can be uplifted, health improved. All of this is possible with the use of stone garden pots.
